About Me

Despite growing up with access to a sewing machine and happily using it to make cushions and mend clothes etc, making my own clothes was never something that crossed my mind. Until I came across the sewing blogs of Casey, Karen, Tilly and others about 6 years ago that is. Suddenly, there was this entire new world of possibility, where you could imagine an outfit you wanted to wear and actually be able to make it.

Then, whilst rummaging in a charity shop, I came across a vintage 1960s dress pattern and I knew I just had to give it a go. Enter Christmas 2010, and I was the proud owner of a brand spanking new sewing machine and I was ready to go!

It was a bit of a slow start though - I wish someone had told me to try an easy, modern pattern instead of the 1960s pattern I'd found - having to grapple with re-grading a pattern and lots of new sewing techniques in one go definitely wasn't the easiest thing to do, but I got there in the end. The first time I wore the dress in public, I had loads of comments asking where it was from and that was all the encouragement I needed to keep making clothes for myself.

So 6 years on, I've completed 2 successful Me Made may's and made loads of clothes of my own. This blog started as a way of cataloguing all the things I'd sewn and also a way of making contact with the rest of the on-line sewing community. I've been fortunate enough to meet some amazing sewists as a result of all this, so long may it continue!

It's now morphed into a catalogue of all the things I make - whether sewing, knitting, crocheting, baking etc but it is still primarily a sewing blog.
